This is a volunteer role in a Free Books Shop. The books have all been saved from landfill and pulping and instead are offered for free to shop customers. Destroying books is harmful to the environment so why not collect them together and give them a new lease of life? This shop is being coordinated by the charity Global Educational Trust (GET). As a volunteer in the shop your role would include:
– creating a warm and welcoming shop atmosphere
– keeping the shop clean and tidy
– arranging the books, restocking the shelves
– explaining the free books concept to customers
– explain the aims of the GET charity
– receive book donations from customers
– assist customers in located particular types of books
About Turn The Tables
Our company helps charities by assisting in setting up their charity shops. One of our main tasks is finding and supporting a team of volunteers. These shops may take on a number of varied formats and are located throughout the UK. We will have some excellent opportunities, with new volunteering positions being created on an ongoing basis.
What are they looking for?
We are looking for any enthusiastic individuals who would be happy to spend a few hours or more per week in the shop. Anyone interested in reading would get a special enjoyment from the role.
In other shops we have set up we have been fortunate to build great volunteer teams made up of a wide variety of individuals. There is no upper age limit, but all volunteers should be over 18. We understand that people have different abilities and we try to accommodate everyone who shows an interest. Stocking the shelves would normally involve bringing books into the shop from the store room, but please don’t let this put you off as your skills may be better used in arranging our window displays, or in utilising your customer skills to welcome and assist visitors.
